Archipelagogo by Felt Mistress

 Opens Wednesday May 15th

The Silk Museum is thrilled to announce that the artist Felt Mistress will be exhibiting here this spring.

Archipelagogo is an exhibition featuring 3D soft sculptures inspired by the life work and creativity of Tove Jansson created by the artist Felt Mistress - Louise Evans and Jonathan Edwards.

Rather than take inspiration purely from Jansson’s most famous creations, The Moomins, the exhibition is instead inspired by the things that inspired Jansson herself – art, love, family, travel, and the geography of her native Finland.

The exhibition was initially commissioned by the Lakes International Comic Art Festival and The Finnish Institute in London with the blessing of the Jansson family.

We’re so lucky to host these incredible sculptures at the Silk Museum. Felt Mistress has been exhibited all over the world including shows in Tokyo, Osaka, Los Angeles, Mexico, Paris, Berlin, and London. Their work has been used in fashion shoots, ad campaigns, music videos and films.

Come and see these beautifully created characters in amongst our collections. The work will be on display to coincide with Macc Pow!  Macclesfield’s Comic Art Festival.

Woven by The Doll’s House art Gallery

 Saturday May 11th - Saturday June 22nd

WOVEN is a 1:12 scale exhibition of 3D artwork by three Macclesfield-based artists, Lorna Ellen, Marianda T and Tyra Till, who explored woven techniques in different materials including clay, found objects, histories, words, and using the ancient technique of tablet weaving.

Lorna Ellen is a multidisciplinary craftivist whose artistic work revolves around environmental consciousness and creative reuse. Grounded in a deep respect for the planet, she masterfully intertwines man-made waste materials with natural ones, highlighting the stark contrasts and symbiosis between them. Trained in textiles, Lorna demonstrates a unique blend of traditional techniques, like felting, crochet, and embroidery, within contemporary art contexts.

Marianda T is an artist making small sculptural objects with meaning and stories from things found along the way... In the past year she has spent a lot of time investing in her artistic future by building her own studio from the ground up, and it’s lovely!

Tyra Till is an artist who is preoccupied with Unity; reaching and enabling people from different walks of life. Her work is about breaking down barriers between things and between people. She counters the fragmentation of human society into ‘individuals’ and her practice concerns joining and bridging contrasting elements & constituencies.
