Our expert guides deliver fascinating private group tours of Paradise Mill and of the Silk Museum.
Book a guided tour of paradise mill
Tread the original floorboards of this nineteenth century mill and you will be able to absorb the sights, smells and sounds of what makes it so special. The colour of the threads, the sound of the warp and weft as your guide demonstrates what it was like to weave on a silk Jacquard handloom. Here you can discover the heart of the silk industry in an original mill setting. The group rate for a guided tour of Paradise Mill only is £10.50 per person.
Discover our collection of Industrial Machinery in The Silk Museum
Your group can visit the Silk Museum as part of a private tour or on a self-guided basis. View our historic collection of industrial machinery including a Ribbon Loom which made the tags for Dr Martens boots. We recommend the private tour so your group can learn about the characters who made Macclesfield the centre for textile design and production, find out about our Ancient Egyptian Collection and how silk made this possible through the incredible story of philanthropist Marianne Brocklehurst. For self-guided tours, we are pleased to receive donations of £3.00 per head. Guided tours of the Silk Museum only are £6.00 per person. We also offer group rates for pre-booked refreshments in our atmospheric Tea Room.
